Question WM App Store help lower app prices?

Hey does it fry anyone else's scrod that most apps for WM are 15-30$ Maybe that's because they're all strewn all over the place so developers have to charge so much.

Hopefully the Marketplace will allow the best apps to rise to the top, allowing them to lower their prices.

This was set off by Coreplayer costing $30...

Think prices will drop?

Re: WM App Store help lower app prices?

The only way I think the prices will drop is if Microsoft pushes this Marketplace hardcore. The reason the apps for the iTurd are so cheap is because once you develop the app and submit it you have a group of consumers with no other way to get the app. Yeah you can jailbreak the phone but the average user likes the ease of going to the onlinestore and clicking "buy". If I created an app and the only way to make money was to advertise it myself and word of mouth I would charge a premium. Now if I had tens of thousands of potential buyers that were chained to the only "legal" source to purchase I could drop my price. My .02

Re: WM App Store help lower app prices?

yeah, it's funny that kinoma is still there for $30 too. I think it's hurting them. Interestingly enough, Twikni's price has dropped to $0.99. A week ago it was $1.99 and on their site it's still $5. I think prices will drop once the store becomes more populated.

Re: WM App Store help lower app prices?

Once more applications make it into the marketplace, and MS does something about the [practically] non-existant DRM/protection on applications, then I can see prices dropping by 20-40% or more.

Re: WM App Store help lower app prices?

I would expect the Marketplace to cause Apps to cost more money. The Marketplace is designed primarily for people who aren't members of PPCGeeks and XDA, and who don't want to or know how to find and install apps. I think most of us here are happier with free betas and alphas versus a $30 Marketplace app. --- imho

However, it could turn out to be very good for developers and in turn cause a lot more cool apps to be produced.
