Motorola shows off its first Google Android phone

Motorola shows off its first Google Android phone
  • Posted on - Thu Sep 10, 2009 2:16PM EDT
SAN FRANCISCO -
Struggling handset maker Motorola has unveiled its first phone using Google's Android operating system.

The Motorola Click and other Android-based handsets Motorola Inc. plans to release could be the key to reviving its handset division, which hasn't produced a hit since the wildly popular Razr phone in 2005.
Google Inc. encourages manufacturers to use Android for free. Smart phones based on it could rival Apple Inc.'s iPhone and Research in Motion's BlackBerry.

The Click was unveiled Thursday during a mobile Internet conference in San Francisco.

It will be available through T-Mobile in time for the holidays. Motorola plans to unveil a second handset in the coming weeks that will also be available for the holidays.

HTC Corp. has released two Android handsets, and Samsung has announced plans for one.

Re: Motorola shows off its first Google Android phone

I think the new phone looks good. Its got some really cool social networking and connectivity and synchronization features. Reminds me of the WebOS approach a little. I'd have to play with it in person to know for sure. Not about to switch to T-Mobile for it though...

Re: Motorola shows off its first Google Android phone

I don't know how other's have faired, but my experience with Motorola phones has been subpar for many years. Android or not, count me out.
