Recharge battery in 3 seconds...

http://www.pcworld.com/article/16113...e_seconds.html

MIT says they have developed a way to recharge a battery in 3 seconds. Imagine recharging your cell phone this quickly. "Oops, batteries low. Let me recharge... Ok DONE."

Also, imagine going down the road in an electric car. When the battery level gets to 20% or so, the car can automatically recharge the battery using some kind of alternator (based on the forward motion of the car.)

This is big news and it's REALITY. The article says we could see this technology in as little as 2 years.

Re: Recharge battery in 3 seconds...

The article raises some interesting questions regarding current demand and cabling to charge full size batteries.

If the battery can charge in three seconds, what is keeping the battery from discharging in three seconds?

They don't call it the MAGIC Institute of Technology for nothing! :P

But seriously, that's a good point. I won't pretend to even understand how they did this, but if the article didn't mention anything about increased drain times, maybe they found a way around it? In other words, the answer to your question may be far more complicated than you think...

Yeah, should have remembered the time my Dad droped a wrench on the battery by accident. BIG BOOM.

Very exciting prospects for the all electric car.

Re: Recharge battery in 3 seconds...

It's amazing the technology.

I honestly believe one day that we will have electric cars that are as good, if not better, than what we have now. But the technology is not there yet.

Getting there, just not there.
