Re: Is 2010 The Year of Wireless Congestion?

Maybe one of the resident experts can chime in here:

Now, while I know both networks are susceptible to congestion, isn't this more of a issue on GSM networks than on CDMA networks?

It depends on location. It has nothing to do with CDMA vs. GSM.

I understand location is a major factor. But it would seem to me that the type of network has to play at least some role in all this as well.

Because of the spread spectrum tech employed by CDMA, it can in theory support more users per cell than it's TDMA counterpart correct?

Or, perhaps any advantages that one network may have over the other are diminished so much so by factors like location, interference, number of towers, etc., that it really does become a moot point?

I may be way off base here as I have only just finished my first semester of 'data comm' in which we very briefly touched on wireless network tech. Hope to go into it more in depth this next semester though as I find it to be a really fascinating subject.

I appreciate any input on this as I try to wrap my poor little brain around it.

I don't know but a lot of the issue isn't how many people can access one tower at once based on the CDMA vs. GSM technology as much as they aren't putting up enough fiber lines or whatever in cities like NYC where congestion is bad.
