Tegra 2 Devices, finally coming soon!

Having previously offer our readers a heads up concerning the apparent potential integration of the much hyped Nvidia Tegra 2 chipset in Nintendo’s next-gen DSi, Nvidia have acted to confirm widely reported rumours that Tegra 2 touting devices, taking in everything from notebooks to MIDs to smartphones will indeed begin appearing in 2010.

At this juncture, Nvidia are attempting to keep the full low down concerning their Tegra 2 chipset under wraps but what is known is that the new version of the Tegra chipset will purportedly be twice as powerful as its predecessor thanks, in no small part, to boasting a dual-core ARM general-purpose processor paired with ramped up graphics processing and, though unconfirmed, faster memory – however what is known is that the Nvidia Tegra 2 chipset will stem from a 40nm manufacturing process.
And it seems that we won’t have to wait too long to gain a full insight as to what the Nvidia Tegra 2 chipset will bring to the table as Nvidia have confirmed that they are set to parade the Tegra 2 chipset at CES.
“At CES we are going to make a major announcement about Tegra family. It is highly possible that we will see some very interesting form-factors coming out at the same time,” said Michael Hara, senior vice president of investor relations and communications
[
at Nvidia, at Barclays Technology Conference last week. “[There will be products] shown by our partners using the next-generation Tegra device. You are going to see roll-outs and deployments of tablet PCs, smartbooks, netbooks, MIDs throughout the first half [of the year]; and then you will see major roll-outs of smartphones in the second half.”
“We want to deliver a Web computing experience that is better than on your PC. Today, if you take your PC and go to the Internet, you want to see high-definition in everything. You want to have fast response times and switching between your windows, you want to see high-definition videos, you want to see high-definition images, so, your experience is about HD Internet

. Our objective with Tegra is to deliver the same experience to your handheld devices.” (sic)
We will, of course, ensure we bring you any further news concerning the Nvidia Tegra 2 chipset as and when it becomes available to us but one thing’s for certain, the Nvidia Tegra 2 chipset is going to make a considerable impact on a wide range of devices and, thanks to its diverse range of applications
, its more than probably set to impact on your digital world in one form or another.

How soon, how good, and how expensive Tegra 2 devices will be, unfortunately is likely to depend on litigation. Some of it started this morning when the FTC announced a new law suit, saying:

>>>>

...Intel is attempting to expand its monopoly into new markets, and the company has a "dangerous probability" of monopolizing the graphics processing unit market in addition to its current dominance in the market for central processor units. A graphics chip leader, Nvidia (NVDA), filed a lawsuit against Intel in March on similar grounds."We applaud today's action by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission," said Nvidia spokesman Robert Sherbin. "We are particularly pleased to see scrutiny being placed on Intel's behavior toward GPUs, which have become an increasingly important part of the PC industry."

That Litigation has nothing to do with Tegra.

I have 2 years remaining on my TP2 sp this is what I want my next phone to contain along with Windows 7 Mobile, true 1080p external connection to an external monitor, and a decent bluetooth full size keyboard. Oh yeah and a 128 GB MicroSDXC card (I know they don't even have these on the horizon yet but 2 years can change a lot). Of course it will be on HSPA+ with a reasonably priced unlimited data plan (they are a long way from this right now). Then I won't need a computer I'll have everything I need in my phone and just plug it into a large monitor at home and at work.

Less than a handful of phones ever saw the first Tegra chip, doubt many will see this either. I don't see what the big deal is...

from a business stand point the tegra chip needed to be tested in the market first, integrated into the zune HD for commercial and into prototype devices for big companies to test with.

Now Tegra2 will hopefully be in the prominent Windows Mobile 7 phones competing with the Snapdragon chip and whatever other developments happen from now to the near future. 2010 is going to be a good year for portable devices
