headset wiring?

Problem: Connect HTC Dream (G1) headset to 4 conductor 3.5 mm jack for Moto Droid?

Background (why the heck would you want to do that?): So originally I had an HTC Dream and some Etymotic headphones. The cord on the Etymotics gave out, so I spliced the ear buds onto the Dream headset where they worked/sounded great. Now I've picked up the Moto Droid so I'd like to change the proprietary HTC plug on the headset into a 4 conductor 3.5 mm headset jack so I can use it with my Droid.

Wires: So now I need to figure out what color wires go where. The HTC headset wire colors has been largely explored/solved here:

And perhaps mapped here (not sure where the button figures into this):

But I'm not sure how this equates to the wiring found in the Dream headset (yes, I did take the picture with the Droid):

Nor am I sure how the wiring for the Droid 3.5 mm jack should look anyway. I tried some a Sony Ericsson headset with the Droid and they don't seem to work exactly right, so it's clear to me that "non-standard" wiring exists for these 4 conductor jacks, but that's pretty little to go on frankly.

I suppose I can always play around with the 4 conductor plug I've ordered when it arrives to see what works, but if anyone can point me in the right direction I'd be most appreciative.

Thanks!
