You wouldn't get the "New Every 2 preferred costumer discount" but you'll still able to get it for 199 after MIR.

In the end the Alltel data plan will pay for the difference and more.
That's exactly what I have. $20.00 data plan on family plan.

I will have to head over there tomorrow. Thanks all for your replies!!

Re: Alltel Plan VS Droid

I've heard you can use your Alltel plan with Droid, but some functions won't work properly--GPS is the common one.

Re: Alltel Plan VS Droid

I can also confirm that I was able to keep my Alltel plan with my Droid and my girlfriend's Imagio. Both upgrading from dumbphones to smartphones. We just had to add the $30 data for both phones. Originally we were going to upgrade to a Verizon plan to get more text messages anyway, but the VZW rep told us we could keep our Alltel plan, so we stuck with it. I just use Google Voice for texting now.

Also, to the poster above me, all of the functions on both phones work fine.

Same here, GPS works perfectly.

Not true, at least for the Tampa Bay area, big problem is GPS does not lock at all with people who have an Alltel plan in SW Florida. Also Visual Voice mail is broke for Alltel plans.

Been a bunch of guessing, but the common factor seems to be people were with Alltel. It has also happened with people who went from an Alltel plan to a Verizon plan as well. People are guessing it has something to do with towers and agps, since some people have gone past the Tampa bay area and got a gps lock with their droid.

It is all guesses since there has been no official word from Verizon, Google, nor Motorola.

Re: Alltel Plan VS Droid

Can anyone please rehash on how this works?

I'm on Alltel in an ATN (Atlantic Tele-Networks) merger market. The merger hasn't been done yet here. I'm 8 months into my current contract. I'm on a Smart Choice 500 Family Plan (Plus additional data plan on second line).

If I could dump my Touch Pro and get a Droid I would in a heartbeat. But I *need* to stay with Alltel (Verizon costs waaay too much).

So is it possible for me to go to Verizon and get a Droid?

Re: Alltel Plan VS Droid

GPS has always sucked in tampa, Any where South of I4 is in the rough, It's because there's so many people trying to acess it at once making it harder to get multiple towers to lock on. If you live in tampa you know all the small area's anyways, it works by USF and in Citrus park, but I know for a fact its really random during heavy access times on dale mabery.

It's the same for my friends Iphone, and another friend s blackberry.
