Droid's Metal Siding: How's yours lookin?

I bought a case, coincidentally from Verizon, for my Droid. It seem to scuff the metal edging around the side and I don't know exactly what to do. I called Customer Rep.'s and they said that they could charge my account for the phone and then send me the new one and once they received my phone they'd refund the purchase. I'm debating whether to go into a store or not; what're your opinions? I also looked online and wonder how hard it'd be to replace the border myself. I'm not sure I want to go through the hassle of Store Reps. all for small, but visible, scratches.

are you really that worried about a little scuff mark? they dont usually replace phones because of user caused cosmetic damage.

if you do that it sounds like a refurbished phone which they do all the time.

Haha if you READ the post, I said that the CASE VERIZON SOLD ME WAS DEFECTIVE and caused the damage. And no, it was not a refurbished phone its brand new. I just wanted some opinions, not a reply which didn't even answer my question.

Re: Droid's Metal Siding: How's yours lookin?

Well, warranty won't cover it as it's not Motorola's fault, and the Verizon store generally won't cover it unless they physically damaged the phone themselves.

Be careful with the situation you outlined because if they get the phone back and determine it was wear and tear or negligence on your part (IE not their fault) they may not refund you the whole amount (restocking fee).

I would definitely go to a corporate store with a repair technician on hand for the exchange. You should also have the name of the CSR who told you that they'd replace it. If you don't have the name, chances are they didn't notate your account.

Alternatively you could try and take it up with the manufacturer of the case.

Re: Droid's Metal Siding: How's yours lookin?

You won't be able to replace just the trim. I'm sure it's on there pretty good and if you were to take it off, either the glass would come with it or it would break the seal and you'd have dust under your screen. Also they locktite the screws in there pretty good. I tried taking them out once on one of my Droids and it felt like they'd strip out before coming loose.
There are a few things you could do.
1.) If the scratches aren't through the black finish and into the aluminum, you could polish them out with some paint polishing compound.
2.) If the scratches are through the black, you could mask off the glass and the rest of the phone and take a scotch brite pad and remove the rest of the black and then polish the aluminum to a mirror finish with Mother's polish. I have thought about doing this myself. It would be easy to do and would look awesome. If you scratched it after that, just get out the metal polish and fix it.
3.)Just put another case back on it. The body glove one looks nice.

Re: Droid's Metal Siding: How's yours lookin?

Thanks for all the replies. I'd say that I'm just gonna live with it. I don't know what else to do. I put the case back on..but it makes the phone so much more less then it actually is. It's so beautiful I feel dumb for putting a case on such a nice piece of hardware.

Re: Droid's Metal Siding: How's yours lookin?

I have more of a problem with the rubberized coating on the back flaking off on the corners than anything else. I wish there was a way to just remove all of that cheap shiat.
