attaching things to SMS & email

Were do I need to store files in order for them to be availale for attachment to an email or sms? If I try to attach to email, I get a screen that looks like the gallery, but it says "pick" at the top, and the files I want to attach are on the SD card, so hey don't show there.

Can I attach a file to an SMS....like a doc or an xls?

For email, use Astro and long click the file pick send choose a program, I don't thing you cand send via SMS only pic, songs, videos... But a program called hoocer can send anything
