App to put phone to sleep?

My phone will no longer go into sleep mode when I short press the power button. While I am waiting for my warranty replacement to arrive, I am looking for an app that will allow me to put my phone to sleep from my homescreen, so that I quit pocket dialing and texting people. Has anyone seen an app like that?

Re: App to put phone to sleep?

Shouldn't the screen auto time out? Also if the button isn't working how do you wake the phone up?

Re: App to put phone to sleep?

The screen will auto timeout, but the shortest setting is 15 seconds. The phone will wake up by pressing the power button and holding it will bring up the shut down menu, it just won't initiate timeout. Its pretty weird.

Re: App to put phone to sleep?

Sounds like the power button got unassigned to sleep and wake the phone somehow. Is there a way to reprogram it like you can with WinMo devices? It might be as simple as that.
My friend left his Droid on the hood of his truck and it got rained on and this happened to him. Maybe you got some moisture in around the button.

Spare Parts will allow you to change the behavior of the End button, among (many) other things. It's a free download in the Market.

Oops. I already have spare parts, and it appears that is how I screwed it up to begin with. Oh well, my headphone jack was giving me problems anyway.
