You may have hit the nail on the head. Not all chips are equal and there is a reason why they are rated to only 600 MHz. Have you tried different voltage kernels? As far as I know, there are some higher voltage kernels that work for people that have instability at regular or low voltage.

should i try high or low voltage? for bugless beast do i have to use the kernels pete provides or can i use any kernel?
thanks

You can use almost any kernal just find one you like. You might have run in to a limit for your phone though.

can you please recomend a good 900mhz kernel or a kernel that goes to 900 or 950. thanks

Adamz puts out some good kernals. I have good luck with bekits kernals also. Chevyno1 kernals are supposed to be good but I have not used them.

I had this problem on one of my droids. It couldn't handle more than 800mhz. It's odd how there can be such a variance in the exact same processors. My current droid runs at 1.2ghz without a hitch. No freezes, reboots, or high temps at all. Of the 4 droids I have had under warranty, thus one has been the most solid.

Its just like trying to overclock processors in your home computer, some people get ones that are better overclockers then others. It just depends on the quality of the chip. I remember when I had a desktop I had an e6600 which hit the limit at 3.3ghz(2.4 stock), when most people were seeing around 3.6ghz. I would actually want a kernel that undervolted at stock speed for better battery life, I find the droid is fast enough at stock.

The scrolling smoothness is where I notice the huge difference.

Yep I think you guys covered this. While most chips are able to reach 1ghz or more without issues (I'm running 1ghz right now), many of them can't get very high and remain stable. This is because these chips are tested to be stable at 600mhz and no higher. They aren't saying after 600 they will blow up, but they only test to 600 and make it stable for sure until 600. Beyond that its a guessing game. Some chips can handle it, some can't.
