TW outbound server preferences

I can get inbound TW POP email, but can't send using their SMTP server. I tried to use smtp.vzwmail.net and smtp.gmail.com....neither work.

Any ideas on port settings or security..........I know someone must have it working............

Re: TW outbound server preferences

I am not sure what the TW (time warner?) servers require but I do know standard ports for SMTP are as follows:
-port 25 for non ssl
-465 for SSL
-587 for TSL

If it is time warner, here is a list of their servers based on region.

Also, pretty much every SMTP mail system REQUIRES username and password authentication which is actually optional in the setup. Make sure you have this enabled. (Should be the same as incomming server)

Re: TW outbound server preferences

The only way I can get TW mail to send is to set the outgoing port to 25 and require authentication (userID and Password.) This works everywhere except at the house over my wifi connection. Of course, since I am at home I can send the e-mail from the PC. If I understand correctly, this has to do with anti-spam measures. The thread that I read said that this works on all TW systems, you just have to make sure you have the correct smtp server address. The thread also had a list of all TW server addresses. Unfortunately, I was on a foreign computer when I looked this up and have no idea what the url is for the thread. It took me quite a bit of googling and binging to finally find the answer. Anyway, I babble... Good Luck.

Re: TW outbound server preferences

Big Red, your wifi probably has port 25 blocked. This is a common port to block.
