I don't think it's a microphone issue as the voice recorder is amazing and Google Talk works like a charm. Perhaps it's software related.

I have had this issue a lot, thought it was just me. Guess now I will pay more attention and maybe talk to the folks at Verizon. If they give me new phone will I have to reinstall all the stuff I've been adding? Somewhere seems I read all my information was backed up so I wouldn't have to do that?

No, you don't have to reinstall, it will automatically sync onto your phone as everything is backed up on your google account.
