Re: How-To: Root your Droid

The rumor is that the update will be Android 2.1.0 and will arrive on Jan 22, but it's only a rumor right now with no solid evidence

Ya, but you wont have any trouble updating manually either , and most likely earlier as well lol. You could actually have 2.1 on yours today, but I dont think the version out for the droid right now is as complete as the official update will be.

Re: How-To: Root your Droid

I'm debating whether or not to root my device and I have a couple questions. What can you do with root access (besides flash roms and remove stock problems) and could you explain what's important about doing a nandroid backup?

a nandroid backup is in case you use the terminal or adb shell and end up bricking your device you can go into the custom recovery image and restrore from the nandroid and your 100% back and running at the state you made that nandroid backup its saved me many times

also with root you can screenshot any screen almost, set CPU MHz but don't think works with droid. Also my favorite is AdFree and removing the ads within websites and programs.

im also debating just "rooting" my brothers droid incase he ever in the future wants to do a custom rom before another OTA update.

-edit
man now i figured out why my android SDK wasn't letting me do anything in "ADB Shell" im never using the terminal on my phone again...

I can't believe you were in the first place! That's hardcore as all hell, rooting, installing nandroid, and custom firmware right from the phone!
