As we all know, well if you dont know verizon has now release its LTE/4g but the Question is that our 3g phones will have a piece of the pie. I have my droid x and defenetly will not like to buy a new expensive 4G PHONE. My droid x is just a few months old but will want 4g on my droid x!!i

My understanding is a 4G phone has to be built with the proper hardware. No software update will get you 4G on a 3G phone.

no sim card slot on the X.... sorry, no LTE....

Yea that's true. LTE has to be built in to the phone. That's why sprint said no lte phones till next year even though lte starts this year. Only aircards are available with lte. One smart thing verizon did thats ahead of sprint's 4g is they will have lte in all 32 nfl stadiums and a lot if major airports. The only real way to beat sprint to the punch is to make Lte available to the disney world resorts in orlando. Sprint's 4g doesn't reach disney and disney charges 9.99 a day for access which is outrageous.

Run RSD Lite on your phone... The Radio Chipset states "4G". I don't know if that means that you be able to flash the chipset to 4G or not.

The software on the X is more than able to run 4G, the problem is the hardware itself, as stated above there is no place to put the sim card, so no 4G, even if the software can handle it.

Do phones really need a SIM today? Can't that information be flashed into the phone/radio? All the SIM does is store some contacts and the IMEI information...
SIM chips may become OBE (overcome by events) given new phone technology. I.E. memory/storage and processing capabilities ETC...

Yes you have to buy a 4g phone if you want 4g. Its the chipset that makes it 4g and the chipset in all phones on verizon right now is only capable of 3g.
