[APP] HD Weather TAB - v1.3 (Fully Functional)

First off, big thanks to XBoxMod and the guys working on the Full HD Port, sztupy for creating the magnificent LUA tools and patiently answering all my questions while working on the decompiling of the LUA file(s) and 6Fg8 for m9editor which was great for manipulating the mode9 files and graphics.

This is the Weather TAB from the HTC Touch HD. For those that aren't up to doing the full HD conversion, this will only upgrade the Weather TAB without affecting the rest of the phone.

Standard Weather TAB from Touch Pro/Diamond

Installation
  1. Extract CAB from ZIP file
  2. Upload CAB to phone
  3. Turn off TF3D
  4. Soft Reset to make sure nothing is still in memory
  5. Install CAB
  6. Turn on TF3D
Un-Installation
  1. Disable TF3D
  2. Restart (Soft Reset) the phone
  3. Uninstall app (Start> Settings> System> Remove Programs)
  4. Enable TF3D
ToDo
  • Location/Condition text doesn't fade in/out when switching cities
  • Change Easter Egg to display 9 RANDOM weather states rather then ALL
Languages
I've uploaded a CAB that will install all languages for the Weather TAB as well as a ZIP file if you would like to locate and copy just your specific language. Just like above, disable TF3D before adding the Language CAB or the individual Language Manila's. Just to clarify for anyone using the files within the ZIP, they must reside in Windows directory of mobile.

Looking very good so far, although i faintly remember xboxmod had fixed the stretched weather graphics already, or is that just something you're working on aswell?

I actually pulled the graphics from XBoxMod's CAB. Comparing all the graphics to my Touch pro, it appears just the Sun and Moon graphics were the only ones that were fixed. So yes, I am gonna go through ALL the graphics and fix any stretching that still exists so that it looks the way it normally should but smaller. :thumbleft:

does your weather update automatically... whenever i go to a new tab and then back to the weather tab, i have to click on update, otherwise I don't see the weather...

No, not yet, I'm trying to resolve that as well. Testing it now as a matter of fact. :)

this will probably allow everyone that is using xbmod's hd manila to be able to use landscape. right now with 12eon's landscape everything works perfect but it refreshes the weather tab back to the original. i would if after i install the landscape then install this if everything would be perfect again.

i dont have time right now, but someone should try this out and report back, thats a steller idea! Then we could have everything! HD and landscape!!!

i have this installed on my tp. after installing it displays the weather info for the next 5 days but all of the text ( city name, days, etc) disappears. i am using the ssk 1.5 rom if that makes any difference. has anyone else had this issue?

Not trying to be a jerk dude, but read before you download next time since it clearly states on the first post that the text and up and down arrows dissapear.

Yeah, it looks nice and I like the 5 day forecast being on the screen, but I'll wait til additional bugs are fixed, but I'm loving it. thanks.

I'm still learning all about the TP and TF3d, having moved from a Treo 800. Any chance of being able to incorporate radar images? I mean, even if the URL has to be manually entered and not dynamically linked by the selected city?

Do not believe you can incorporate radar images with weather in TF3D. However, you can try WeatherPanel which is a today plug-in that you can use radar images pulled from websites such as weather.com.

Thanks. I've been a user of WeatherPanel for some time now, but havent gone back to it since my swap to the TP. I'm kinda partial to TF3d now that I've gotten used to it.

From my reading, there isnt much documentation on modifying tabs. My thought was a modification that instead of the current conditions image, maybe a radar image could be downloaded in its place. *shrugs* I'm still learning. Maybe eventually I'll figure how it all is supposed to work.

Yea, I do not really know anything about getting into the files and changing code and what not so I wish I could help you on that one but I would end up breaking the device I'm sure, haha. It would be nice if you could get to a radar image from within TF3D though since it does have a nice look to it. I myself use secondtoday so I can have TF3D still active and have weatherpanel open on my today screen for the exact reason that I like to be able to look at radar images.

First of all, nicely done. I was hoping that someone might do this since I'm not quite sure I want to load the whole HD port and go through that ordeal (not that it is something awful). I have two questions for you.
1. When do you think you may have to "to-do" list finished? Not trying to push by any means.
2. I thought I read on the full HD port thread that the weather tab does not work with WeatherDatabase editor. Is that the case or do you know?

I actually could never get Weather Database to work even when it was stock. However, there is a new one over at XDA called WeatherMaster that does work. So far, every city I have tried to add has been successful.

As for the ToDo, I'm not sure. The biggest problem right now is decompiling the LUA files. If I can manage to decompile them successfully, I can play around ad see what the changes affect. But right now the decompiles haven't bene 100% successful. The other option is creating an injector using the aul.dll to make my own calls and edits.

Status Update
 
Well, so far I've fixed all the images so that they are properly sized for our phone resolution.

I've also fixed the arrows so that they are properly positioned and visible now as well as repositioned the touch location so that pressing the arrow positions correctly moves between weather cities.

I've also made a CAB for that installs all languages for international support as well as a ZIP file where you will be able to locate and manually install just for your language.

Still need to resolve the issue with the text disappearing when you swipe or click the arrows to change weather cities.

Still need to fix the auto update issue.

See Post 1 for updated CAB(s).

Smotrs, I was waiting for you to make these changes before I loaded the cab and it looks great. Not that worried about the updating feature personally because I can just hit that button. I appreciate the work you put in. Thanks again...

No, my wiper isn't working, I added it to the first post as well. Does it work on the HD Port?

I thought about that as well. It's actually identical to what's already on our phones. So it should work similarly to what the Sun and Moon were doing by looking slightly squished since it's just an image file.

But just for giggles, I'll give it a shot just to rule it out. :)

Edit: By the way, the reason I chose not to edit it was because it was hardly noticeable when it was scaled plus it went so fast, you didn't have a chance to notice it anyway. :)

Edit2: No change, still doesn't work. I feel it's definitely script related, hopefully something simple. We'll see.

I think I only have the animations problem. the arrows aren't visible but that was by design to create more room and a clean look. If you jump on XDA you will see the manila files that have the arrows....which isnt too bad.

Didn't notice the arrows being visible on the XDA site, nor the display of what city 1/6, 2/6 etc.. Which image were you referring to over there?

If you change cities on the HD Port, what happens? The attached images shows what happens on the Weather TAB I've got going but I'd like to confirm if this is also the case on the HD Port. The left side is right after an update the right side is when you switch between cities.

If I can confirm this is not the case with the HD port, then that means I'm missing something, but if it's also happening on the HD Port then we are both missing something or its an edit we need to make somewhere in one of the files.

there was a weather update that someone made for XBOXmod and was posted that had the whole thing including 1/6 etc. but Xboxmod didnt like it and wanted the numbers removed to make a cleaner look(which I like as well). On HD I do NOT get the loss of the city name after an update, it stays just like its supposed to.
