Question Silly Charging Question

So this may be a silly question, but I've just received the T-Mobile MDA (HTC Wizard) second-hand and without a charger.

The Mini USB port on the bottom allows ActiveSync and charging from my notebook's USB port, but when I try to charge using an AC-to-USB adapter it doesn't work... I've tried two different Motorola phone chargers and a generic one that came with my Jawbone that has a USB female connector on the adapter and you supply your own USB cable. I've used the same cable I was using when attaching to the PC, but no luck.

Interestingly enough, I did get it to charge with the same USB cable once at an airport by plugging it into the Southwest Airlines chairs with the USB power plugs...

So does anyone know? Does this phone require a special sort of charger?

Re: Silly Charging Question

Its a standart mini-usb connector and i've never had problem from it accepting charge from any mini-usb adapter(used over 100 probably over the years)

Re: Silly Charging Question

I have a feeling it may have the capability of charging from the USB data bus as well as the extra "power pin" supplied by the mini-USB connector. And I think that extra "power pin" may be damaged in the phone's connector. I did take it apart and attempt to resolder the pads but it didn't make any difference.

One of these days I am going to try to make a special custom cable that will short the "power pin" with the other data pins so that I can charge the phone with an AC adapter. We'll see how it goes.

Re: Silly Charging Question

If it is not a hardware issue, you could switch it into a USB Disk (Via WM5 Storage program) and have a try.
