significance of COM ports with GPS

Hi All

In settings -> system -> remote GPS, the vogue allows you to change which COM port the GPS operates on. All threads that I have come across talk about using it on COM 4 which seems to be the default, but is there any reason why I shouldn't change it to COM 1 so that I don't need to manually set to COM4 every time I start Holux GPSView?

Also, anyone know what the 'Cold Start', 'Warm Start', 'Hot Start' buttons and 'WAAS/EGNOS' checkbox in Holux GPSView actually do?

Cheers

Steve

Re: significance of COM ports with GPS

The phone communicates through "serial" with the gps receiver. It is hardwired for com4. Our device is just a little too small to have shunting jumpers where you can select the comport. While software might be out there to program the chip to a different comport, my money is on that it's hardwired...
