Problems with Bluetooth File Transfer

My wife and I both have the Touch (Sprint). One of the features that we started using was beaming appointments, etc. back and forth between phones via bluetooth.

We updated the rom (first to the unofficial, "official" leaked one...then to the real HTC official rom), and we've been unable to push files since. The phones can see eachother, are added to eachother as devices, and file transfer is checked, but no good. After it starts the transfer, it cooks for about 30 seconds and we get a failure message.

Was this function disabled on the new rom, or am I missing something?

Re: Problems with Bluetooth File Transfer

I think there is a lot missing from the bluetooth function of the Vogue. I've found lots of questions but few answers. Maybe this will become the definitive "bluetooth thread".

My Vogue works fine with my Plantronics headset and I managed to get dial-up tethering to work but the only pairing options I see with my PC are "Serial Port" and "Stereo Headset". Activesync is not available, nor is file transfer.

I've not tried to pair it with another Vogue but I'm not surprised it doesn't work well.

Re: Problems with Bluetooth File Transfer

That's the funny thing. Prior to upgrading the rom, it worked perfectly. I could push files to the other phone from anywhere in the house...appointments, contacts, photos...everything. I could also activesync via bluetooth. Everything worked great.

Since upgrading, nothing. That's what is leading me to believe that they changed software or registry settings prohibiting blue tooth file pushes, etc.

I don't use a BT headset, but it's interesting that this functionality has changed. Must all be related...

Anyone out there that has poked around in the programming and can render a verdict?

Re: Problems with Bluetooth File Transfer

I am also experiencing file transfer issues via bluetooth. I am with Bell. I originally flashed DH's Vista Rom then the original Bell rom when it was finally released. I select send via BT, cooks for a bit then I receive the OBEX fail message.

Well that is one of my questions answered. I never messed with bluetooth before flashing... well except for the headset which still works.

If it worked before then it would seem that it's just a matter of finding out what changed. WM6.1 maybe?

Re: Problems with Bluetooth File Transfer

I may have found an answer to our problem. I just downloaded a freeware application called ObexInboxEx v0.945. Once installed, soft reset your device. Then go to start/settings/Oben Inbox and select a favourite folder for downloads. Now received files will automatically be downloaded to this file folder. Note: keep the disable file receiving box checked in the Obex Inbox settings tab and enable only when you are expecting to receive a file or you may get something you dont want. Hope this helps!

Re: Problems with Bluetooth File Transfer

You do not have to download any program to file transfer. With wm6.1 they have made it more secure an therefore you with need to specify which folder you would like to transfer from.
Just do the following:
Under Comm Manager
Select Settings
Bluetooth
FTP
Check (Enable Bluetooth Explorer)
Check (Enable File Sharing)
Browse and select the folder that you transfer files to and from.

Vola! That's it! You can now beam and file transfer to and from just like wm6 version.

Re: Problems with Bluetooth File Transfer

No good.

I reset all the bluetooth settings in both phones. Deleted each phone as a new device, and re-added it with a new passkey. Checked every applicable box, and it still doesn't work. It just says "Failed" next to the name of the device I'm trying to beam to.

This is going to drive me nuts. I appreciate the above tip re. 3rd party software that can help, but one of the big things we do is share calendar items. Is there anyone out there with access to two touches that can see if they have similar problems with the new rom?

The only thing I haven't tried is a hard boot and reload of the new rom...

Re: Problems with Bluetooth File Transfer

I had the same problem. Someone said to check the "Receive all incoming beams" box. Start-Setting-Connections-Beam
It worked.

But the "Beams" box is for the IR beams that the Touch doesn't have. So I have no idea what they did in the 6.1.
