First time data user have a couple Q's (Verizon)

first post.. and first smartphone ive owned so far.. i just activated my data plan.. i bought the unlimited plan .. now i have a couple questions about that.. do i have to set anything up on the phone to connect or does it do it automatically.. when i open up PIE it says dialing *777 .. it connects and everything everything works.. i went to dslreports.com and tested the speed. and im getting like roughly 700KB down doing the 1MB test.. is that the speed im supposed to be getting.? and can i just leave the phone conected to data all the time or no? how do i disconnect it.. such a newb about all this .. thanks!

1) that sounds about right for bandwidth on EVDO rev 0
2) I hate that notice... you can disable it by going to start> settings> sounds & notifications> notifications tab> and shut off the "display message on screen" on connection established, i think.
3) do you have an unlimited data plan? if so, you're fine... if not, I'm not sure how to disconnect data only.

On the Touch there is a setting in the "Long press end key" settings for data disconnect.

If you have unlimited data you are good to stay connected all the time

Re: First time data user have a couple Q's (Verizon)

speaking from the sprint side of things, I don't know if verizon is different, the phone will automatically disconnect from data after being idle for so long. it's not a problem, when you go into PIE again it'll just take a moment to dial *777 again then it'll reconnect automatically

When you are ready grasshopper, it is worth it.
If YOU are not yet ready, it is so not worth it.

I'm not really sure about VZW versus Sprint about ROMs... I think you're good to flash either.

For me it went like this:
1) flash Imcokeman's unlocker
2) flash Sprint rom
3) flash other rom

You probably can just run a sprint rom, but I'd wait to hear back.
