Backup apps and restore on new rom

Is it possible to backup your phones applications and settings, upgrade your ROM (to 6.1 for example) and then restore the settings so your apps are back with their settings?

I am asking because I spent the last 2 years tweaking this almost perfect setup for me, and I don't want to start from scratch, but at the same time I want the 6.1 for Rev A and the GPS.

You run the risk of the OS having issues, possible registry changes, etc. most of the folks, myself included that attempted a restore, had small, but annoying issues.

Always better to NOT restore to a different revision of the OS.

2 years? wow, didn't even know the touch was out that long.

Actually my Touch is only a year old, but the setup comes from my previous phone. This phone was Wm5 and I didn't try a restore, but I remember redoing everything was quite a pain, that is why I wanted to know if from 6.0 to 6.1 it would be an issue.

when you do your setup this time, do what I did.

Make a dir on your pc, as you install your apps, copy the .cab file to the dir.

Also, make a .txt file in that dir with all your registration codes, reg tweaks, and any other notes for yourself.

ie email info, etc.

This will immensly help your rebuild process, esp if you keep this folder in sync with your storage card.
