Look at what verizon said about xv6900 gps

This is the exact email i recived from them on the questions of a gps unlock and the rev-a upgrade...... sounds like bs to me what o you think?

Thank you for contacting our Verizon Wireless website. We are happy to
assist you with your question with regards to the GPS receiver and the
REV A capability of your XV6900.

We sincerely apologize for the delayed response. Due to an extremely
high volume of customer email inquiries, the response time has been
longer than expected. Your handset's GPS chip is used to provide the
handset's location to emergency responders when placing 911 calls. It does not
provide any user accessible functionality such as location information
for directions, mapping or any other application.

At Verizon Wireless we value the security and privacy of our subscriber
data and user information and we have taken this into account in the
development of our location based services offerings. To alleviate
concerns regarding access to data by malicious applications and misuse of
location information, Verizon Wireless' location based services utilize a
solution that requires each location request to be authenticated and
accepted prior to a user's location being obtained through the network
and used by authorized applications.

Verizon Wireless is aggressively working to expand our suite of
location based services offerings in a way that does not compromise our
dedication to privacy and security yet offers value and flexibility to our
customers.

In regards to your second question, at this time, the XV6900 is the
only REV A capable PDA. We are unable to state if or when this feature
will be offered to our XV6900 users. We understand and apologize for any
frustration regarding this but we are only able to provide information
regarding products or services that we are currently offering. We are
unable to disclose any unconfirmed information because it would be
subject to change and could raise expectations that may not be met.

If you would like to receive e-mail updates regarding new products and
services, please click on "Sign up for email updates" from the
"Support" tab located at the top of our www.verizonwireless.com homepage.

We hope you find this information helpful. It has been a pleasure
assisting you today. We make it our personal goal to resolve all of your
concerns. We sincerely hope that you feel we have done that today.
Should you feel your current concerns are not fully resolved, please reply
back to this email or call us at 1-800-922-0204 and we will happily
address them for you. We appreciate your business and thank you for
choosing Verizon Wireless.

Sincerely,

Daphne

Sounds like the responses you get when you email any phone provider about future updates.

Re: Look at what verizon said about xv6900 gps

i suspect they are getting a ton of calls from people who need to re-auth their phones...sooner or later they'll put it together (and probably watch this forum) that people really want these features. hopefully they'll do the right thing and give us what we pay for.... but then again, they may simply just want to get more people using their vz navigator...and i just say to them: let it go. you don't really have many other (if any) phones with gps...so you still get a TON of people who want directions to use your vz navigator. don't hold back an awesome phone that will bring you more business. idiots.

and that's what i have to say abou that.
oh. and MOST important of all. Thanks to all the hard working people here who are cooking roms and researching all this great info.

Re: Look at what verizon said about xv6900 gps

I don't understand which part you think is BS? I read "we don't enable GPS because our vendor partner (they only have one vendor partner is part of the problem) don't have a certified applicaiton for that device yet" and "we haven't turned on REVA in anything other than the 6800, just like Sprint".

I would have to say that you got a more extensive e-mail response that most people would get and it says "we aren't ready to give you that yet"

Yes but dont you feel all warm, fuzzy and secure knowing they have disabled the gps functionality to protect your privacy?

Re: Look at what verizon said about xv6900 gps

I would respond back that my GPS is fully functional, and not only tells me where I am but that VZW is filling me full of crap whenever I call 611.

The HTC Touch XV6900 GPS works great! In fact I use it with Sprint version of Telenav on the rom I am using, besides Google Maps and Windows Live Search.

Thanks Verizon! For nothing....

Yeh, and they'll flag your account. If you need to call customer support they'll turn you away for modification of the software and hardware...

BRILLIANT!
