Overclocking the Touch??

I was just reading some article about using a program called BatteryStatus to overclock the touch up to 260mhz. http://www.htc-touch-info.com/en/overclocking/

Any big risks with overclocking?

Re: Overclocking the Touch??

that actually pertains to the gsm touch which uses a different processor and slower speed in comparison to our cdma touches.

Re: Overclocking the Touch??

Yes, the CDMA Vogue (Touch) already runs at a peppy speed of 400mhz. Its GSM counterpart runs at a mere 200mhz, hence the need for overclocking it.

Re: Overclocking the Touch??

Yeah, that's actually for the GSM version.
They use a different processor.
GSM = Texas Instruments OMAP 850 @ 201MHz
CDMA = Qualcomm MSM7500 @ 400MHz (Some have the the MSM7200)

You can't really say they are faster or slower, because the 2 different manufacturers use different scales of measurement.
It's like comparing a PC that has an Intel vs an AMD processor.
You can't just compare processor GHz #'s.

Also, consider that HTC recently released the Touch for Vodafone w/ the TI OMAP 850, and they have a new phone coming out next month that uses that processor.
It wouldn't make much since to go w/ a much slower processor.

I totally understand what you are saying, but coming from my personal use and other testimonies as well, the GSM Touch runs slow as a dog (just check the GSM Touch forums). Whereas my Sprint Touch has never skipped a beat, and is very quick.

But, again, I do understand that they are two completely different processors, with different scales of measurement. Point taken.

Re: Overclocking the Touch??

Now I just pose the question, is it possible to overclock the cdma touch? And would it really help much?

Actually it could. A slower processor would have a lower battery drain, so sometimes it is useful to have a slower processor.

Ok, I should have been clearer. I understand they can have a slower processor, but I meant that the GHz #'s aren't on the same scale.
The Qualcomm 400GHz is not the same scale as the TI 201GHz.
In other words, the 201GHz is not half the speed of the 400GHz.
If it is slower, it's not half.

And it definitely makes sense to have a processor w/ less battery drain.

Re: Overclocking the Touch??

It's MHz, Not GHz. They are two completely different processors. The Qualcomm 7500 has a dual-core architecture for instance.
