problems sync'ing my phone to my laptop

i have a problem syncing my phone to my laptop using active sync so i thought if i ended partnership with my computer then try and reestablish a partnership it will work better but now my computer doesn't recognize my touch so i am unable to establish a partnership
anyone have any ideas what i should do?

Have you tried a different cable?

Active sync means you have XP? If so make sure you turn off the following setting. Start -> Settings -> Connections -> USB to PC and uncheck the "Enable advanced network functionality". See if that does it...
