Question on htc shift

good morning
Ireally dont know how to use htc shift as phone,some they saying yes becuse shift have wm6 and all future just like all others device ,some they said no,any way they any way we can use this device on gsm and cdma ,iknow it kinda stupid to think about this but why not bulid device that nt can work on both net works ,im not talking about working at the same time ,ijust want to know is it passable ,it look nice device that have all ineed esp/windows vista ,idid some reserch but still dont know the fact ...(,..
