Question on Area code / long distance / voice mail

I have a CDMA Touch on the Bell Mobility network. I can access my voice mail from the mobile phone using #123-456-7890 format. When I dial that number with the pound key in front, the dialer always adds a "1" in front of the number, so it tries to dial this: 1#123-456-7890, which fails. It works properly if I disable the "automatic prepend" feature, but I like that feature.

My area code was set at 425, so I changed it in contact options. So my question is, is the phone adding the "1" prefix because of the pound key? Or is my area code setting still wrong somehow? If it's due to the pound key, is there any way to make an exception for the voice mail number?

Thanks for any help!

Is there a reason you dont just hold down the 1 button on your dialer to access voicemail

That's what I normally do, but it makes no difference. Manual dial or speed dial, I still get a "1" prefix in front of the pound.
