Data Connection says "Phone as Modem"

After a flash of a new ROM from the Kitchen, I see (when I tap on it) that my data connection says "Phone as Modem" instead of "Sprint PCS". When I go into the connections there isn't even a connection there called "Phone as Modem" only "Sprint PCS". If I select the Sprint PCS there, it then changes to read "Sprint PCS" but as soon as it disconnects and reconnects again it is back to "Phone as Modem".

Now, I don't care what it says there as long as it works which it does. I'm just concerned if it could look like like I'm constantly tethering and transmitting lots of data. I don't want my account to get flagged to be charged for tethering.

Any thoughts? Thanks.

Re: Data Connection says "Phone as Modem"

I had that same issue... but I ran PPST.exe and WriteDMData.exe from the windows folder... (they run as part of Sprint's Autorun carrier customizations) and the issue seems to have gone away.... I tried just Running PPST.exe and that didn't fix it so seems to me that both need to be ran.

I also ran PPST.exe and it didn't fix it. I wasn't familiar with WriteDMData.exe, but i'll give it a try. Thank you.

Re: Data Connection says "Phone as Modem"

I just tried running WriteDMData.exe. It didn't seem to do anything -- does it give a response?

Re: Data Connection says "Phone as Modem"

no it does not... it seems to be done after it disables the phone radio... then I just did a soft reset after that and after the soft-reset all data connections show as Sprint PCS to me....

Seems to have worked. Thank you very much. How in the world did you figure this out.

Re: Data Connection says "Phone as Modem"

I just looked at the config files for the SPrint carrier customization and when I saw PPST.exe was followed by this step "WriteDMData.exe" and they were both part of a Sprint's cab install figured they had to be linked.... I was like you feeling very uncomfortable seeing that "Phone AS Modem" on all my data connections... Glad I was able to help! I've learned so much in this community thus far and I really wanna become active...

Re: Data Connection says "Phone as Modem"

Can someone post the writedmdata.exe file? I have OMJ's Rom and the file isn't included. I had never noticed before, but when I click on my data connection icon, it displays "Phone as Modem" too.

Re: Data Connection says "Phone as Modem"

Looks like I spoke too soon. After doing what was suggested and a reset, my connection showed as "Sprint PCS". After some period of time though (presumably after a disconnect and reconnect) it went back to "Phone as Modem".

Any other thoughts? Thanks.
