Why do I have to use GPS viewer to access GPS

I wasn't able to get GPS access using the leaked rom or a kitchen build but after using gps viewer and setting my other progs (i.e. gmaps) to use com4, it worked. Is there any way to skip opening the first program? Shouldn't i be able to directly access the GPS? I have lurked for a while but am still unsure of other solutions.

Re: Why do I have to use GPS viewer to access GPS

I can't tell where you're from, but I am on Sprint here in the US. I had gone through all the hoops and programs as well, but now I installed one of the clean roms and installed the ppst cab, ran it once and always have a quick fix in googlemaps, livesearch without having any of the gps programs (viewer, gps today, etc) installed on the phone. It obviously is the ppst fix that makes it work like it's supposed to. But - I can only say this for Sprint.

Re: Why do I have to use GPS viewer to access GPS

Which rom are you using on Sprint? Im still having problems even after using ppst. To answer the OP: Certain programs have trouble accessing the GPS. To get around this the GPS needs to be "primed." This is done by running a program that initializes the GPS. I used to use AstroGPS to launch iGuidance. I think it primes the GPS for me.

Re: Why do I have to use GPS viewer to access GPS

I'm using JD's clean rom with MS Office. I installed the ppst cab, then went to windows directory and ran the program once. It ran, soft reset the phone, and now I get GPS locks without any problems. None of the other programs installed (Astro, GPSToday, Viewer). It locks with Gmaps, Live Search without fail.
