Disabling shutter sound

My previous thread was in the wrong place. Apologies - mods please delete if this is not appropriate.

My Touch Dual has a VERY loud shutter sound. I need to disable or at least change it. The fact I can't may be due to local (Australian) or my company's requirements?

I have tried all of the following without success.
  • The camera Menu - Settings - Advanced has no sound disabling option.
  • Turning off all the menu driven sounds - speaker volume, notifications etc.
  • Pointing HKLM\Software\HTC\Camera\Common\SourceOfSnapSound from Windows\Snap.wav to a different .wav file and also to Windows\*none*. Bizarrely I don't even have a Snap.wav file in the Windows directory (even with Show All Files).
  • Deleting HKLM\Software\HTC\Camera\Common\SourceOfSnapSound
  • Renaming an innocuous .wav in Windows to Snap.wav.
  • Changing HKLM\Software\HTC\Camera\General\DisableShutterSou nd from 0 to 1 and also to 3
  • Changing HKLM\Software\HTC\Camera\Captparam\Volume from 5 to 0 and also 1
  • Searching the registry for any sound or camera references.
  • Installing CoolCamera and installing HTC Camera 5.0.4.2915.00 for KAISER (neither worked).

Re: Disabling shutter sound

That's really weird. This is what I did:

press the Camera button to open your camera

tap the bottom right part of the screen that looks like this:

. ____
. ____
. ____

Tap the Cog looking icon (second tab)

Shutter sound is the second option on the first page.

Worked for me. I'm running the Sprint leaked ROM.

Options on that page are:
- Capture Format - jpeg
- Shoot Option - half press
- Grid - off
- Keep Backlight - on
- Review Duration 10 sec

So something in my version is different. Though I know little of ROM.

Re: Disabling shutter sound

Just updated to the new bell rom and the shutter sound shut off is missing.
I tried to change the same registry settings and also replaced camera.exe in the rom with the old one. still loud shutter sound. any continuations to this post?

Re: Disabling shutter sound

Mine has option to turn off under the Advanced settings on Menu options. But on the other hand I am using Touch GSM.

Re: Disabling shutter sound

ya this is an issue the bell rom brought up. I have yet to see a way to disable it. It's speculated that the wav is now included in the camera app itself. Annoying as hell that even with sound off.

Re: Disabling shutter sound

Edit the registry key
"\HKLM\software\HTC\Camera\Common\SourceofSnapsoun d "
change "\Windows\Snap.wav" to "\Windows\"

no more sound!

Re: Disabling shutter sound

It is not included in the camera app. I originally thought the same. I have two touch phones and had only updated one of them to the new bell rom. even though the Camera app versions are the same in both ROMs the .exe and .dll files in the windows folders are different sizes. So I copied the ones from the old ROM and over wrote the new ones but still no change. I found the reg key "\HKLM\software\HTC\Camera\Common\SourceofSnapsoun d" which points to "\Windows\Snap.wav" and was going to replace the file with a renamed copy of the silence.wav on the phone but could not find the snap.wav file anywhere.
