Why do some of the vendors on eBay offer the phone with a "clear ESN"?
What is the alternative? If I buy one of these phones will Sprint activate it without question? Can I keep my old number? How much will Sprint charge for this service?

The prices on eBay are lower than Sprint wants with a new two year contract.

it needs to be clean. the other options are reported lost or stolen and you dont want that. i got my touch from a seller called bid_here and it was one of the best purchases i have ever made. it was easily activated over the internet and i had it completely customized with wm6.1 rev a and gps within an hour.

that just means the phone isn't stolen, etc.. just becarful when you buy from ebay, if the esn isn't clear sprint won't activate it.

sprint doesn't usually charge for swapping a phone and you can keep your current number.

Yeah make sure you get a clear one, but that still doesn't mean jack. I bought a 'clear esn" one and it happened to be active. (this was about half a year ago) Still have the brand new HTC Vogue sitting in my office ( I guess I should try to see if it is clear by now) but the seller misrepresented the item.

Just look at the sales rep at Ebay and see if they are in good standing. (then again some of them fall through the cracks, my seller was 99% good, but the accout was hacked)
