Verizon XV6900 Testing

Hi All,

Wanted to start this thread for all XV6900 testers. I've recently flashed my ROM to OMJ's and had some issues, so I reflashed to the latest Alltells' ROM using the 2.31 unlocker. So far in both ROM's I have not been able to get GPS to work. Live is not able to connect to the GPS states (cannot find device with it's intermittent driver) and google maps says device is not compatible. Can those tested reply with how they got their GPS to work, special configs? Thanks.

Re: Verizon XV6900 Testing

Ok, downloaded GPSToday as well and have the same results. No GPS device can be found. In Google maps when I defaulted to "use gps" I get a no gps device found. Do I need to run anything else after flashing my rom to the latest Alltel. Thanks.

Re: Verizon XV6900 Testing

There are three files that I've had to run as well as installing a .cab file to get mine working. Check out this thread: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=25407, post #1. You might also read in OMJ's thread to see what's in his rom re: the gps; since the kitchen now supports Vogue GPS I've not used OMJ's roms the last few weeks. GPS will work on the xv6900; it just took me a little while to get it working. At first mine wasn't even seeing satellites; now locks in seconds.

Hi fredcats,

Ok, I'm still using OMJ's and ran first the gpskickstart auto install. Using google maps it still couldn't detect my GPS device. Ran the manual install and still doesn't work (no device found). Any other steps you needed to do?

Re: Verizon XV6900 Testing

Is the GPS setting in auto matic or manual? If it's manual, what settings do you have? I'm not able to find the GPS device when trying Altels and OMJs (current) rom and installling the GPSKickstart and drivers afterwards. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Verizon XV6900 Testing

ok..here's what i finally have to report on. i reflashed to alltel and manually installed the drivers. Kept getting gps device not found. I live in the mountains so I should have a clear view of the satellites but I have a weak signal from verizon. Went to grab something to eat downhill where there's better signal and voila. I get a gps lock. Not sure why it said device not found rather than no gps satellite. so now my question is, is it truly GPS or is it using the cell sites (triangular). Went back home, i don't get the device not found error message but get cannot locate gps at this time.

Thumbs up Re: Verizon XV6900 Testing

Here's my experience with my xv6900. I got mine the first weekend they were available, I've been modifying it since the Alltel ROM procedure got stable. I'm running the 3.37 Alltel radio and a cooked ROM from the PPCKitchen 3.02 ROM. I have full GPS, I know this because I went to a VERY rural area where I had no cell service. I did, however, get 4 to 5 satellites for the GPS and did get a position. Of course, Google Maps couldn't do much for me because there was no data connection to download maps, but I did get a position through GPS Viewer.

Just a couple of things I'd recommend you check:

1. Verify your External GPS settings in Settings and verify they are COM4 and Harware are set to none, 4800.
2. Go under start-settings-phone-services-location setting and verify that it's set to LOCATION ON instead of 911 ONLY. GPS will not work on 911 only.

To me, it sounds like you didn't get true GPS since it didn't come up until you got a stronger cell signal... sounds like you got triangualtion. Of course, I'm fairly new to this myself to I could be wrong.
