How do you know if a ROM is specific to a carrier, like Derek's?

I read through but it does not say so I worry about trying it?

thanks

Re: How do you know if a ROM is specific to a carrier, like Derek's?

usually Chef ROMS are only carrier specific with regards to the programs included and the customizations executed on first boot. Just like the Kitchen will not be carrier specific, individual cooked ROMS are not as well.

In Dereks case, the release notes show that the included programs are all biased to Sprint (sMMS, Sprint Voicemail) Although it was more clear on his notes before the sprint leaked version came out; since it's on it's 20th revision most DNJ regulars know this fact.

Here is an excerpt regarding kitchens.

Get my drift?
I know that you can't always judge new members by their post count but I notice you have 3, 2 of which are questions you should have the answer to before even thinking about doing things to your phone that could potentially brick it. Regarding your radio question, you didn't explain what you flashed and how you went about doing it so it's hard for anyone to really help you; it's also harder to fix a radio screw up than an OS screw up.

With regards to your 3rd post, you should take advice of those who answered you and look in to making your own with the kitchen.

IF you are indeed new to this form of tinkering I suggest you go through all the FAQs they are there for a reason and helped me when I was new (not very long ago) In fact the FAQs regarding the vogue are more complete now than when I joined!

Re: How do you know if a ROM is specific to a carrier, like Derek's?

That post was confusing to me, so here's a simpler answer:

Cooked roms are almost always carrier specific, unless they SPECIFICALLY state they are not. If you're not sure about a ROM, it's 99% likely to be Sprint. You can avoid carrier customizations by pressing reset during "customizing in 3 seconds" prompt of most roms, but generally you are best advised to stick to generic roms or roms for your carrier if you don't know what you are doing.

The kitchen does not flash radios at all, that's why it can't fix a radio problem.

You CAN mess up your phone to the point you will need technical assitance by allowing another carrier's customization to load.

As far as flashing radios go, all radios are carrier indpendent so far. It's the OS customizations step you have to worry about. Now, just because the radio is technically independent, if you're not unlocked you'll need one signed by your carrier.
