Disable backlight activating with new sms

Does anyone know how to keep the backlight from turning on when a new sms arrives on the phone? I've been searching for a while now and I haven't been able to find any solution. It drives me insane. Any advice would be great (registry setting?). Thanks!

settings, sounds/notifications, second tab, scroll down the list to sms; then uncheck "show notification on the display" or the one similar to that.

I did it when I got mine, screen never comes on.

That's not true. The only purpose for that is so the message is not displayed unless you actually open it in your inbox. The phone still registers the SMS and turns on the backlight regardless of that option being unchecked.

you can change how long the backlight stays on while both on battery power and ac power under settings/system/backlight. i set mine to three min, only becuase any less and it sometimes shuts off when i'm using it.

still not a fix to the problem. I want this for when I am on the phone. I end up typing some really weird reply sometimes. Sent it to a coworker once. I actually was in the process of typing on to the svp and happened to erase it before sending. He might have thought the pic of the husky was pretty but wondered why i sent it to him

So, let me understand this; you want to make sure your phone screen does not come up during a call (while the screen is already dark and unresponsive) when you get a text, so you will not end up tapping out something weird with your face against the screen?

Ok, then I get what you mean; haven't used this much yet. IF you have su2u and open it before you start talking, then it's ok with the notification alert change; but you have to purposely start it from the icon, since for some reason just hitting the power button to turn off the screen during the call will not result in s2u2 opening up when the screen comes back on. Further, the s2u2 option to turn off the display and keep it off during the call is overridden by the dialer app coming up after the call starts - I just tried it.

Darn.

Re: Disable backlight activating with new sms

Maybe one day someone will make it simply activate on answer of new call. I hate to compare it but the reason I want this is that the iPhone had it. One of the few things I miss.

Re: Disable backlight activating with new sms

when i get a call i usually just hit the power button after i answer. shuts the screen off. won't do any good with msgs. but you could always hit the button after you get the message. just set up an alert to let you know it's there. my treo 700w wm5 device had a lock screen during calls feature, but i don't see it on my wm6 apache.
