Activesync preparations - What do I need to do?

I'm about to enable Activesync for everything on my TP using Gmail's new activesync method. I've already done email before, but now I wanna sync my contacts and calendar too.

I'm afraid of the syncing messing up everything for me. I have a lot of contacts in Gmail that I wouldn't want or need on my phone. When it syncs, I'm sure I'll have dual entries of people, one who has an email address and another who has a phone number. I'd want to merge these.

So, how much work should I expect to do beforehand to prepare for this? What else should I consider doing to expedite the process?

Thanks for your input.

Sync your phone. Once sync go to PC in activesync and choose Tools>Options and once there picks what you want to add to sync. I do not think it will add duplicates. Only when you snyc your phone after a rom do you need to make sure you pick option to add Desktop to phone

Thanks for the comments, dallas! On my TP, I'll be setting up the activesync email using my Gmail account. I probably won't even need to use my desktop because of this.

Isn't it true that once I sync with Gmail, everything gets copied over both ways? So if I have existing contacts in Gmail or on my phone, they will go into both places? I'm really worried that I'll have duplicate entries for the same people on both ends, and frankly there are people in my Gmail contacts list that I don't care if they go to my phone or not.
