Re: free gps with vocal turn by turn directions??
For what it is worth - the 4.5 version of AmazeGPS is still free (download it here). Apparently there is some new database in 5.0 that was so expensive that they had to make it a pay service. For what it is worth it is considerably cheaper than other GPS services.
I'll probably still recommend the free version but at this time I think I'll be using Waze when using an online GPS. Ultimately I think Google has probably killed the free GPS market (and put a serious hurt on paid services) with the release of Google Maps Navigation. Granted right now it is limited to Android but if they release it on other platforms then they will probably own the market. Microsoft might compete with them in this space (and right now they have a window to stake out a position as long as Google is limited to Android) but I suspect these smaller start-ups will be going bye bye (which is a shame).

Re: free gps with vocal turn by turn directions??
Amaze was good as long as it was free, but why pay when you can get Google Maps [for the Google OS] and now Bing [for WM platforms] give voice turn directions.
I think Amaze will die.

I might be a little late to the game on this one, but Bing is really good. So good that I haven't used google maps in quite a while.
