When you make a claim (I'm assuming Alltel uses Asurion) they ask you when the 'incident' occurred or when you started having problems (an EXACT date). If you had a BB on the account at that time, then that is the phone they will be sending you.

Soooo, you should activate the TP on your account for some period of time and make sure that is the date you give the rep.

This is insurance fraud BTW, so I don't recommend it. Tell your friend to pony up the cash for a new one.

To the OP, there is nothing you can do. Like what someone said just make your friend replace it maybe even getting you tp2. Plus you were at the beach in florida? That means salt water buddy, even if you pull the battery and let it dry there will be salt molecules all over the inside of your phone (2 to 3 seconds is a long time). Salt attracts moisture naturally and will increase the rate of corrosion inside the phone. So again even if it barely works now it will probably end up getting worst anyway.

I'd expect him to pay for it if he could. He is in no place to being able to afford a phone like that, and it was entirely an accident.

Well, I can live with texting only for a few weeks (I use it for texting more than anything anyway), so I'll just switch it back.

Are you sure they'll know? I just went into the store and had them active a different phone. It literally took a minute.

Well, here's an update.

I just made me insurance claim, and I'll have the new phone here tomorrow.

But, they are sending me the Verizon version instead of the Alltel version. I tried to get the Alltel version, and the person on the phone tried to help me out, but she said there were no more in stock after the merge.

The phone started working again, except it no longer rings or has speakerphone. It is upsetting that I couldn't get my actual phone replaced and they are just sending me a cheaper version of my own.

I guess there's nothing I can do, though.

just so you know the VZN version has less mem than the alltel. if you do custom roms you should look into boreds or SSK's. they were designed for the VZN TP.

after u got the insurance, you shouldve tried a repair center first..they mightve been able to save it, then maybe ou wouldnt of got stuck with a VZW one...

do u still have the damaged alltel one? if so, try a repair center place since now your insured...if they get it working, just return the VZW one

I called and complained today.

They told me the VZW model is comparable to the Alltel model, and only offered to refund my deductible if I decide to send them their phone back.

I really don't know what to do. I can't stand this Verizon version.

Over the last week, my old phone is working perfectly except I can only set it to vibrate. But, the phone is usually on vibrate anyway so it isn't a big deal. I might just keep it.

I wonder if I send the VZW TP back now, if I run into more problems in the future they will replace it again.

Or, if anyone wants to trade a used CDMA TP for this brand new VZW TP I'd be willing

Listen. You didn't have insurance on your phone AT ALL and you pulled an insurance fraud trick to get a working phone because your Buddy can not pay to fix the phone he broke. So, everyone that has been paying for insurance every month effectively just paid for you to get a working phone. NOW, you want to complain that it isn't the one you want?
