How do I perform a hard reset?

Ok, so I googled and it said press the volume down and enter key. I tried both the center button on the dpad and the enter key on the keyboard and neither worked. What am I doing wrong? I took out the stylus as well

Start > Settings > System > Clear Storage
Type 1234 and then click yes.

Two other ways:
1. Press Down Volume and Enter (center of D-pad) keys. Then press Power On/Off key until message appears. Then release Down-Vol and Enter and press Volume Up. You've gotta have 3 hands but it works. This one is in the owner's book.
2. This one isn't. It's the ultimate hard reset for bigtime emergencies or where nothing else works -- like all other HRs on steroids. Bring up your phonepad and dial ##786#. Zap!!! It was the only thing that fixed a weird data-connect problem I was having all last month. You need to key in your MSL number. Do a search on this forum to find out how to get it.

IMPORTANT: Get Sprite Backup and use it before you do any of the above. Save file to your storage card. Sprite Backup restored all of my TP's internal storage files perfectly at least 7 times last month for me.
