GPS isnt active unless you fire up something that requires it.
edit to add, i dont think you can use sprint nav with an external GPS. it was designed for the internal one. |

I'm not completely sure but I think if you disable the location service on your phone you'll also will be disabling the internal GPS.
It is on Phone > Oprions > Services(tab) > Location Setting

The GPS will remain active until you turn location off in phone/options/services/location.
While the GPS chip will still be powered on it will not burn more battery due to using the com port! I tried that gps toggler and it doesn't display correctly on my today page (cut off) and I get errors trying to toggle with it. It would appear to get confused about GPS status if you enable it or disable without going through the toggler. I don't think it senses the GPS state at all...just assumes if the toggler is set to off then it assumes off even though you might have enabled it via QuickGPS or the location setting. |
