phone coverage

so im with sprint and im leaving on a cruise next week. im leaving out of jersey and we are stopping at bermuda, st martian, st thomas and p.r ... im wondering before i leave if i should put internation calling on my plan for the 9 days.. will the phone work on the islands?

even international plans have obscenely high per minute rates. Something to the order of like 1-2$/min. CDMA typically does not work overseas as it's really only a technology North America and Japan uses. You'd be hard pressed to even be able to find CDMA towers anywhere else. I can't say for sure about the Caribbean however.

I am looking at using the local hot spot wi-fi coverage to run skype from my HTC Touch Pro while in Spain this month... Anyone have experience with this?

your on vacation and very far away. why would you want to use your phone? i would only wanna use it for the camera and then brag about it when i got back

I was in Paris when my international phone died and I had to call a friend to meet up with her. Thankfully I had my Verizon PPC equipped with WiFi and I ran up and down the streets to find an open WiFi network. Didn't have to look for too long and while a bit choppy, it worked fine even with a relatively weak WiFi signal.

If you plan on calling landlines however, make sure you have skype credit. You don't need that much. $10 lasted me for like months calling home to the US.

I had fun with people with mine while I was on vacation. They want me to drop what I was doing and come fix something and I would tell them it would be a bit difficult to help them due to the ocean is in the way. Man I miss Hawiaii!

haha i did the same thing but i was a couple states away. its fun to do that. lol
