HTC touch pro.

Well. My previous HTC touch pro was lost in a recent boating accident. I had some games and some apps on it, but nothing too complicated.

I had ordered another one from ebay, came in today. This phone is absolutely wonderful. It is unlocked, Windows Mobile 6.7 or something, unreleased. The guy who sold it had gotten all the upgrades from here, so this is why I am asking this here. I am sorry, because I am sure there is a thread on this already, but I have some other questions.

What is a ROM?
How do I use it?
What is flashing and how do I do it?
I have an unlocked phone, what can I do with it?
Where do I find apps (Games, themes, etc)
How do I install these apps?

Thank you for your time. I understand if I am breaking the rules or whatnot, but, I hope these can be answered.

You should read the stickies at the top of this fourm.

A ROM is a foundation image that contains an OS, various tweaks, and certain apps that the ROM cook considers essential. Different ROMS contain different tweaks and different cooked-in apps. Some ROMs use WinMo 6.1, whereas others use the unreleased 6.5 (there is no 6.7, BTW). You should try multiple ROMs to decide which one is best for you.

Flashing instructions can be found in the stickies at the top of the upgrade forums.

By "unlocked," he probably just meant SPL-unlocked, meaning you can flash ROMs without having to run the unlocker. He could have possibly meant carrier-unlocked as well (less likely), meaning you can use your phone with any carrier that uses whatever radio technology you have - either CDMA (no SIM card) or GSM (SIM card).

Apps are everywhere. Just search the forum for whatever you're looking for, and yo'ull probably find an app that can do it. In addition, all ROMs come with some apps cooked-in.

You install an app either by running it on the phone (if it is a .cab) or running it on your PC then connecting the phone to the PC with ActiveSync (if it is a .exe).

1) Yea, I must be on 6.5. the ebay page is closed now :(

2) I'll check them out.

3) Well, it is carrier unlocked, because I remember a guy asking if it was CDML. Apparently he unlocked it the day he shipped.

4) Is there any specific page for a list of apps? I'm not looking for anything, but if I have a list and see something I like, I'd take it.

5) So, same as I did before.

6) Thank you!

If your device is GSM, you can get plenty of ROMs over at XDA: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=440. (Who is your cellular provider?) Most newly developed ROMs are using WM 6.5, but a few are still around biult on WM 6.1 if that's what you want to use.

For applications, you can go here:

http://www.freewarepocketpc.net
http://www.pocketpcfreeware.com/en/index.php
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=23
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=260
and my 4shared listed in my signature.

With this list, you'll pretty much be able to find anything you could want to do on your phone. To install applications, copy the *.cab to anywhere on your phone, and run it on your phone through Explorer.
