Verizon HTC TP - Flashing Rom

Hey everyone. I am pretty new to this forum but find the things that you guys create fascinating. I am a CPA with not alot of needs from my TP other than phone and contacts but what you guys are doing is pretty cool.

Two questions - is flashing as easy as you make it seem or would I be in way over my head? and 2) what can I expect from a new rom - speed, performance?
