Funky dpad problem

I seem to have a problem with my DPAD. I am 99% sure its a ROM related issue rather than hardware because I remember it working correctly on a different ROM. My problem is as follows:

The DPAD will register the wrong key's sometimes, for example, if i press the HOME key, it will register it as LEFT, or vice versa, etc. Sometimes it wont work at all. I have to turn off my screen and turn it back on for it to work again, which is why i believe it is software rather than hardware related.

The ROM which i am using (EnergyROM on AT&T) is really good, and i want to keep it ,while resolving this issue.

The easiest way to tell if it is the rom is to flash a different one. Since the buttons are so close together I would just make sure that you are pushing the button you are intending to hit (pressing home and it going left sounds like your not pressing directly on the home button and its recognizing left instead).

if that doesnt work, you can use a program called dred sensor to remap the hard keys to whatever you want them to be...pretty cool program...

here is the write up on it:
