EvDO vs 1x: Ev receiving delayed texts more often...???

Hey guys... I was wondering if anyone else has the problem of receiving delayed texts almost all the time while using Automatic Roaming aka Ev radio?

I'm always forced roaming so I can receive text messages instantly. However, sometimes I would still receive them 5, even 10 mins late.

Is this just a radio problem? Rarely, myy phone will get fairly hot when texting aswell, but mostly while charging, probably normal...

Would changing my radio fix this? And how would changing the radio effect my service and/or warranty/policy?

I live in the 92545 area.

this might help.....?

if not, you can always try other radios, changing the radio can potentially affect your service in a positive way and you can always flash back to the stock radio/rom and relock your phone and your warranty will not be affected

No, that's for delayed typing I think... Which I just deal with.

you can always go back to the stock radio rom if you don't like it, but your service could significantly improve, depending on your area. i would try the telus radio, and then the us cellular version. texts come through 1x not evdo, so if you force evdo, you won't receive them. if i were you i would do as i suggested. it could potentially void your warranty in an extreme circumstance, but its not dangerous or anything. there's a radio rom thread in the touch pro upgrades section.

that's only for typing.
not for receiving them.
but the radio thing very well could help.

yeah it could void the warranty, but technically, he could just flash back to the stock rom of his carrier and then it would have the stock radio...and then no warrant void.

Oookay... I'll read up on the telus radio... I just hope sprint can't find out other than personally seeing the phone...

I been forcing roam for 1x overthe past 3 months and never got a warning or anything.

Read a few threads on it... Too confusing.

Re: EvDO vs 1x: Ev receiving delayed texts more often...???

the only reason that i said that it could potentially void your warranty is if you were to brick the phone in the process of flashing, which is an extreme circumstance. on the other hand, if the phone won't boot, they won't be able to see what version. nevermind finding a tech that actually knows anything, nevermind enough to notice a difference in version numbers. those are all factors that probably won't ever come into place.

they won't know if you're forcing 1x, and honestly, they probably would prefer you do so that they don't pay the extra bandwidth charges lol

on the plus side, 1x is what texts go through, as well as voice, and if you keep it on 1x, you'll always get your txts instead of skipping between evdo and 1x. i live in long island, ny, and i recommend the telus radio. if that doesn't do enough, try the us cellular. you can always go back to stock.

i think your a bit confused.. theres EVDO- which is Rev O and A.. theres 1x... and then theres roaming.. if your going into phone>settings>roaming> and selecting it here, then yes your forcing a roam.. EV has nothing to do with your messaging and or call recieving/making- your phone always switches to 1x for txt and calls..

if your really forcing the roam, be glad your even getting your messages and calls... roaming is not a good thing, it may complete your calls and connect your data, but all at extremely unreliable speeds,times,etc..

roaming is not good signal, thats why its roaming, its a last ditch expensive effort to keep you connected minimally as a last resort to keep you, the consumer, happy by not having outages or being in a blackout areas.. keeping your phone in roam is just beggin for voicemail notifications that are 3 hrs old, when your phone never even rang as far as you were concerned.. so if your roaming....you should be expecting lots of lag..

for radios: u can always chang em back like evyone says.. it does technically void the manf warranty, but atleast for sprint your covered cuz TEP covers any type of damage what so ever

Well I get my phone calls and text messages near instantly. However using the Automatic.... it just doesn't send and receive texts fast enough, since it doesn't want to switch to 1x fast enough... Or not at all.

I would switch radios however, I don't use ActiveSync at all... I actually hate the damned program.

I am exactly like you, and the good news is that you CAN flash radios and roms using the storage card!

I have been, and because I switched radios it's significantly helped my reception and text reliability.
