Can we stop the ROM madness?

Hi, I just recently started playing with all of the ROM's on here with mixed results. It seems to me there is no perfect ROM, however the creators seem to all say theirs is the best. This whole thing seems like one giant mess where there are 15 to pick from with no idea how well it would work for you. Everyone that downloads them always wants more or less in the rom and the creator either makes yet another one off or is smart enough to not do it as that would create more issues down the road.

My suggestion is the creators of all of these ROM's should form a partnership and create one group of ROM's all based on the same thing. There could be sprint builds, alltell builds, no TF3d etc, but it is all off the same base. This would be by far the best for the end user as it would eliminate the confusion of which one to pick. This would require a lot of working together, but imagine how much more progress would be made if everyone were working for the common good, not just themselves! not only would the roms be better and get better faster, but fixing issues would be much easier as well.

I know everyone has thier opinions of what should be in there, but this whole thing reminds me of why linux really doesnt take off...there are too many flavors!

So, all of the ROM cookers, this is my challenge to you....can you work together for the common good, or is haiving your name on a rom more important to you???

I propose "Unified ROM 1.0" should be created by the best people in here. This will show how good these can be, and how much better they can be in a short amount of time. I am sure the novice-mid level end users in here would totally agree with this, but they are not the ones i need to convince.

There are already a few collab roms out there, like copper, which is pretty much outdated by now, and the silence/mighty production. I too would like to see a rom cooked up by all of the best chefs here, but unfortunately people want different things. Some people like 6.5 over 6.1, or rhodium manila over standard, or no manila at all. The reason there are soo many roms out there is that people want the variety. All the chefs have their preferences too, so i dont know if they'd be willing to work together to make a sweet rom, because it'd be hard to please everybody. I would love to see it though. I wanna see Juicy's Rhodium Manila with the T-Mobile Skin, and Silence/Mighty's 6.1 base, but that's just me..

never hurts to try. I love messing around with this stuff, but I do not see how the common user can make any sense of what to really do.

To the big dogs...i look at it like sports...i would rather be part of the world series team than being a cy young pitcher on a 62-100 team...

I always look at things for their potential, not always what they are and i see the possibility for something really good here. if peoples cannot get past their own pride then so be it...at least i tried!

The way I see it, it's a privilege for us to be able to test out these guys roms. And in return, we try to let them know where they can improve in different areas. No need for us to be *****y(for lack of a better word) about all the different types of roms being cooked. Thanks for the variety Chefs! Keep it coming and we addicts will keep on flashing.. If it annoys you that there are a variety out there, then you should flash back to staock and call it a wrap! Just install apps and tweak a stock rom. Good luck with things.

i think the custom roms are good, i guess i would rather see a huge collaboration with 10 different roms to pick from vs 10 collaborations with 3-4 roms to choose from

The beauty of many different ROMs is that there is a flavor for everyone. One "unified" rom would be boring, bland, and very much a compromise in many different aspects. If you want a stock rom, just go with the -- well, with the stock rom.

For me, my rom is best, but for others the worst. Mine doesn't have Manila (which I hate and others can't do without), and is a black based rom (some can't see as well and need white -- I hate white keyboards and dialers).

See where I'm going with this..
