Question ROM/Upgrading Guide For Newbies?

Hey guys,

just bought an HTC Touch Pro and am interested in adding some apps, etc and changing some things but don't know where to get started.

Is there a newbie guide or something for us new folk? lol

Also, if you brick you device trying to upgrade/flash it, how do you go about fixing it?

Thanks,

gamingneeds

Re: ROM/Upgrading Guide For Newbies?

Welcome!
First go here : http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=68
Read the stickys about unlocking/flashing if you intend on flashing any custom roms, which would probably be a good idea, but make sure you read first. Then you can choose the rom you want. There is a software section here : http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=23 so you can find some cool apps. Enjoy!

Aww you beat me to it Leukay.

@ gamingneeds: Just take a look around, specifically in the CDMA Upgrades thread. Check out the stickies for all your unlocking/flashing/relocking needs. Welcome to the PPC goodness that will consume a lot of your time!

Re: ROM/Upgrading Guide For Newbies?

Cool, thanks for the tips. I downloaded the RUU and am looking at some ROMs. Is there a POLL that voted the best ROM? They are all so different.

Is there a way to install only certain pieces of each ROM?

Re: ROM/Upgrading Guide For Newbies?

I'd put my vote in for both MightyROM (4/5/R3BORN) and SilenceROM, both are speedy.

There isn't a way to only install certain pieces, however both Mighty's and Silence's ROMs are fairly light with the software they install. Most of what they do are just tweaks to get everything running faster.

You could download a kitchen and make your own ROM, but that's a bit tricky for those just getting into the game.

besides the answer you already got..once you've flashed a rom and see how easy it is you'll find yourself flashing several roms until you find certain things ppl do that you like... just beware your significant other is gonna miss you as you'll become consumed with this site and the damn phone as its very addicting lol

the one you describe sounds just like this one.

there are also free ones that do similar things, like this one

or this one
