Gps Triggering Data Connection Bug is there any Fix?

Hi Everyone!
Im having some issues with my sprint pro, evrytime i turn on the gps, it automatically starts a Data connection no mater wich software im ussing (Destinator, Igo 8, gps Tuner) its always the same, so i have to long press end button an kill all data connections, then my gps fixes in 3 secs. So my question is: is there any way to make the gps stop triggering data connection, and instantly do what its suposed to do? is there any fix? i already used the search button and nothing. Thanx in advance you all

I use garmin and my data only turns on when its downloading traffic info or weather data, your data should turn itself off after a couple of seconds. If you don't want data connection triggered turn it off in the settings of the gps program.

Re: Gps Triggering Data Connection Bug is there any Fix?

I think what he means is that the GPS connects for location information to his carriers server (aGPS).

To disable this, you have two options.

The easy one is to download this: http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-...tion-tool.html

You'll find an option under GPS to disable assisted GPS. You'll need .NET 3.5 installed on your phone for it to work.

This second option is much more involved, and if you're not comfortable with it, avoid it. It will however survive hard resets and keep GPS from connecting no matter what. You would need a program called QPST (you won't find it here, need to google it). You'll need your MSL to get into the device with that program. You can use BAFs MSL grabber, and you CAN find that on this site.

You might try a data disabler program like NoData first to see if this is something you really want to do. When you see how long a GPS lock takes, you might reconsider.

Two things to start with. QPST MISTAKES CAN SERIOUSLY SCREW UP YOUR PHONE. If you haven't used it before, google for online tutorials. There is an option to read from phone and save to file, that way if you screw it up, you can restore the original settings. DON'T BLAME ME IF YOU SCREW UP YOUR PHONE!!! As long as you do the QPST backup to file on your PC, you should be ok if you need to restore things. Secondly, by disabling the aGPS (that is why your phone connects to the data network) it will take a very long time to get GPS locks. If you're ok with that, then read on...

Once you have both QPST and your MSL code, you can put your phone in DMR mode by entering ##3424 if it's a Verizon device, or ##3424# if it's a Sprint device. Then plug it into your computer and let it detect the device. Open QPST on your computer, and when it connects, go to service programming and enter your MSL when it asks you for it. (You should have it now if you used BAFs MSL Grabber) If it asks you what type of device it is, the last selection in the drop down box works for me, but you'll get messages about the device type changing after updating items and that's ok. Go to the GPSOne tab, and write down any and all info you find there. What you'll want to do is delete the server IP listed there. It will look like xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx. Make it 0.0.0.0. Also change your port number to 0. Change PDE transport to something besides IP (I can't remember what other options are there, but any should work). Also change the last box labled Position Calculation from PDE to any of the other options in QPST (again, I can't remember what the other options are, but any will work). Write changes to device.

THIS WILL BREAK YOUR AGPS!!! Your phone shouldn't connect when obtaining position now. You will have to reverse the steps to correct this if you need it to work as it does now. It will also take a VERY LONG TIME to get GPS locks. But that is the sacrifice if you don't want it to connect to your data network.

i didnt think the TP used aGPS to get locks. i know the VZN TP does not, it only uses the GPS chip.

The Sprint version does for sure. The Verizon version must be if it's connecting every time he's using GPS for something. Without the aGPS data, it takes 20 minutes to get a lock for most people, regardless of which HTC device they are using.

All of our phones are using aGPS for quicker locks, then rolling over to real sat data

Yep I can confirm this, I was camping in the Backwoods in Colorado all last week and I was trying to get a lock with the phone turned off, since there is no service up there. I have Garmin, TomTom and iGO8 and everyone of the apps took FOREVER to lock with out the phone trying to connect to data. Even though there was no data/voice service where I was, the only way I got a GREAT lock was to turn the phone off of airplane mode. Then I was getting locks in 5-15 sec. But other than that I would only lock on 1 or 2 satilites with phone off and it would drop the signal, but as soon as it turned on it was 7-9 satilite locks.

if you didnt have service you couldnt have used aGPS since it uses the towers to triangulate your position. i have NEVER had a problem getting a sat lock with the phone in airplane mode. there is a long thread about the GPS working without signal. the whole time you were trying to get a lock GPS tools was still running, which is why when you tried it again after turning the phone back on you were getting faster locks. the VZN touch pro does not use aGPS. read the bored GPS sticky at the top of the forum.

UMM not trying to start a war but if you didn't notice I am NOT ON VZN I am with sprint. This was tried several different wasy. First Phone DIED charged it all the way then turned it on. And I never said it got a signal from a tower. Just by turning the phone on my TP on I was able to get a lock faster. I tried it for 10 days.....everyday camping. And yes everytime the PHONE was ON it did try to connect to a tower but no luck. There is no need for me to read the bored GPS sticky considering I am not on VZW

you could not have used aGPS WITHOUT a cell signal. not arguing with a FACT. if you didnt have cell service, please explain to me how you were using aGPS.
