Maps for Europe/Translator

I am leaving for Spain for a few months and I am on Sprint. I won't be able to use my phone for making calls or access to the internet unless with connection to wifi. I was wondering if there are any map programs that I can download onto my phone right now before I leave, and be able to access them without any data connection. Also, will the GPS work without a data connection. Finally, does anyone know any good Spanish-English translators for windows mobile?

and just why wouldnt GPS work? its not like the sats are only over the US. GPS should work as long as you have a stand alone program that it works with now.

Our phones use AGPS, it needs a wireless signal in order to get a GPS reading. No CDMA service-no A as in AGPS.

Believe me I have tried in Holland, Spain, Germany and France.

Can't wait for the TP2, with both CDMA and GSM..

Re: Maps for Europe/Translator

then your doing it wrong. out phones DO NOT need Agps to work. trust me, i used it on a carnival cruse. read the thread about GPS working with the phone in airplane mode. or you can just try it yourself. turn your phone OFF in the comms manager then run HTC GPS tools. i promise you, you will get sat lock.

Maybe one sat lock if you are lucky. Don't count on being able to use it, it will not work, no matter what anyone will tell you.

Re: Maps for Europe/Translator

I've heard lots of people say they can do it. I've tried in the Middle East and now in Amsterdam to no avail. I've tried using TomTom, Gmaps (when connected via Activesync for the data stream), and GPS Viewer and I cant get ANY locks. The sky was pristine for all attempts and there weren't any large skyscrapers or anything.

I've done the reg edits to disable the AGPS settings (first post in this thread: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread...outside+states ) but to no avail

Re: Maps for Europe/Translator

fire up HTC GPS tools, set com to 4, the baud to 4800, then go into functions and mode-cold start, stress-on. then click on "open port" at the top of the screen and wait. you can see how many sats it sees under "start test" and how many are locked next to that.

Re: Maps for Europe/Translator

Try I-go I love it, it beats the rest hands down IMHO, granted you have to pay for it (most of the time) but it runs from the card and you can customize it with all the POI info that you want!
