Quick nub question

After you unlock your phone to install new roms, does that also allow you to use whatever service provider you want?

Re: Quick nub question

no. you can flash a sprint touch pro to verizon or cricket however, it does take alot more work though.

Think you could post a link to a guide?

Re: Quick nub question

It does not. The carriers are all different. For instance Verizon no longer allows outside equipment to be registered on their network. Just do a search on the phone you have and the carrier you want to run it on, i.e. Alltel on Sprint or Sprint on Verizon. That should keep you busy reading for a couple of hours.

to which carrier?.....for the verizon one there are plenty of guides on here....for the cricket one i believe you just install a rom without carrier customizations and then just instal the cricket carrier custimizations

I've been hearing it depends on the rep.
Most people tell them they have a phone from a different carrier and want to activate it.
It's all in the keywords you use....

So, what is my best bet if I want get a sprint touch pro to work on the version network? Some of you are saying that all I need to do is flash the phone, others are saying they no longer allow other providers phones on there network...

IDK why vzn stopped adding devices to there DMD. maybe you should call to confirm. if the person you talk to says it can be done get there name and ext number so you can call them back and have them add it to there DMD. i ported a 6800 over end of last year.

Re: Quick nub question

i wouldnt think verizon could do that.. its a federal mandate that phones are allowed to be unlocked after a contract ends and the have to provide the info, if needed, to us to unlock it, making it offically our phone and were allowed to take it to another carrier..

this very well may not be offical but they settled it around the time that 17yr old kid "jail broke" the first iPhone and apple tried to get pissed... it went into litigation over was our freedom of consumer choice being compromised by being stuck with a handset we paid for, and onl being able to use it on one carrier... we definitely won, but they may of gave em time before they have to implement it by...

congress is about to fight another big battle for us it looks like.. their looking at debating whether carrier exlcusivity is comprising our consumer choice.. such as apples Iphone, sprint Pre, or Instinct, etc.. im willing to bet we'll win that battle too...
