Sending broken TP back with custom rom still loaded- bad idea?

Heres my situation..

My screen stopped working sometime last week, i did a few soft resets and then a hard reset which only worsened the situation due the screen still not working and resulted in me totally locking myself out the phone. I couldn't get past the set up screen where you have to tap the screen and do screen alignment so i took the phone to verizon.. i was pretty sure they couldnt get it to work either, and i was hoping that they wouldnt be able to tell a custom rom was installed. They tried all their solutions but couldn't get past the set up screen either, so they decided to send me a new phone.

Now that i have the new phone, i wondering should i send in the old one at all with the custom rom still installed? Will they check that at whatever warehouse its going too?

In advance, Thnx for any advice.

If you can get the shipped ROM onto the SD card you should be able to flash back without using the screen. Then just relock the same way I believe with the relocker that you can find with a quick search.

My phone did the same thing... luckily I knew the screen was about to go and I got everything back stock beforehand.

You can get a little usb adapter or a flash card that the miniSD fits into so you can plug it into the computer without the phone. They are fairly cheap.

Bottom Line: If you don't send it back you will find ur next phone bill to be pretty freakin large. If you send it back they may or may not notice, but not a risk worth taking because unlocking voids the warranty and you will find ur next big really really big anyway.

Really? from the SD card? Even if i got the stock onto a memstick...i guess the issue with that would be that i cant get past the "tap to set up you device" screen. Is it possible to get around that too?

Oh, and how did you know that the screen was going out? I still dont know what cause my screen to stop working.

It wont matter about the set up... once the stock rom is on there... when/if they put a new screen on it they will tap to set up the stock rom not a custom one.... the hardest part is being able to no when the flash is done or if it even went threw.. if you can active sync to a computer you dont need the screen to flash it will do it all for you... and just re-lock the phone and bam no worries.

Re: Sending broken TP back with custom rom still loaded- bad idea?

From what I hear most techs don't know if a phone has a custom ROM or not, and if they accepted it for return/repair, it usually comes back ok.

Re: Sending broken TP back with custom rom still loaded- bad idea?

The consensus, is to return the phone to stock ROM, just in case.
Some people have returned phones with customs, with no issues.
You stated being stuck at the screen alignment screen? Have a ROM on your PC?
Power your phone down (remove battery/reinsert battery). Enter Bootloader (VZW bootloader escapes me, I believe Vol down, Reset button and Power).
Connect to PC, run RUU of the stock ROM, done. VZW'ers please feel free as necessary!

I'm part of the consensus, flash to stock to avoid any excuse that it's the custom rom causing the problem and that you are SOL because you just voided your warranty.

takes only a few minutes once you have the nbh file loaded on your sd card good luck

yeah I have always flashed back to shipped rom and relocked. I don't have $300 just laying around that I want to throw away.

yes just flash from the mem card, you should feel vibrate and hear the startup splash sound and see the ring module light up when the flash is done.
