how to: replace windows default wait cursor

i did a search and didnt find a walkthrough like this so i apologize if it's already out there.

if you guys are like me then you can't stand the windows mobile default wait cursor. i know there are programs out there like marshalls wait cursor (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=383161) but i dont want yet another program running in the background taking up valuable RAM and processor usage.

instructions on how to change wait cursor via your shellres.192.dll.0409.mui

1: extract your shellres.192.dll.0409.mui
you can get it just by looking in your windows directory on your phone via activesync or using the ROM extractor (http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?p=1571715)
2: copy that file to your pc
3. Unsign the file using Unsigner (for this just drag the file on top of this and it will unsign it)
4. Open it in one of these three Reshack / PE Explorer / Restorator and go to the bitmap section
5: from 4896 to 4911 you can put your custom bmps here! you can right click on the resource under each folder and choose replace resource. pick your bmp file and choose replace.

i tried adding more resources after 4911 but it didnt work. i am sure there is a config file pointing to how many resources it looks for but i havent found it yet. so you are limited to 16 frames.

6: after you save your file with reshack or whatever you are using just copy it to your SD card.
7: rename the original shellres.192.dll.0409.mui to shellres.192.dll.0409.mui.bak
8: copy your new shellres.192.dll.0409.mui to the windows directory with total commander or resco file explorer

here are some of the ones that i have.

i made this one. its just a simple triangle cursor. i wanted something simple and orange and thats what i came up with.

Nice walkthrough for people who don't know how to do this. Thanks for taking the time to write this up and share what you have learned.

Has anybody tried swapping out windows 6.1 for 6.5's wait cursor

Re: how to: replace windows default wait cursor

6.1 does not support the transparency, so it would have a crappy box around it

This is a nice write up. Does anyone have links to where to find new bitmaps to make cursors from?
